Dutch term or phrase: halfconserve
What wuld be the correct translation for this term? Is it simply "half-conserve" in English? (probably not)

"Een goed gepasteuriseerd product kan onder koeling enkele maanden worden bewaard. Uiteraard moet dan besmetting met nieuwe bacteriën worden voorkomen. Het product dient dus van een hermetisch gesloten omhulsel te zijn voorzien, zoals een vacuümzak of een potdichtdarm. Zo'n gepasteuriseerd product in een hermetisch gesloten verpakking noemt men een halfconserve."

semi-preserve

Explanation:
Not really my field, but the "Großwörterbuch des Lebensmittelwesens" gives "semi-preserve" for "Halbkonserve", which seems plausible.

See: http://books.google.com/books?id=bP9um0wRrc8C&pg=PA613&dq=se...

One or two suitable hits to be found on Google, e.g.:
"Whole duck foie gras, traditional conserve : Silver Medal.
Whole goose foie gras, semi preserve (vacuum packed) : Bronze Medal."

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks a lot for your help Neil! This is the term I used but actually in the plural form suggested by solejnicz since it fitted better in the sentence. Perhaps that should have been given as a comment to your proposed answer.

neutral  writeaway: is used in specific cases but is not the general term (with or without the s). Nasty when that happens, isn't it?

neutral  writeaway: great answer, if the text is only about fish (or foie gras, as in the original version of this answer)/I checked this thoroughly before anyone answered. That's how I know it's not right. I am careful in my criticism-and in my agreement.

-> What do you mean, "only about fish?" Look for example here: http://www.cubagob.cu/ingles/des_eco/minal/conservas/vegetal... and please be more careful with criticizing in the future.
