Dutch term or phrase: in tweede tijd
I get the impression this might be a standard phrase.

Actually, the text is Flemish rather than Dutch.

"patient werd in tweede tijd ter secundaire preventie behandeld met een statine"

Thank you

subsequently
Explanation:
another possibility. depends on context-if something was done first/initially and then in tweede tijd the next thing as follow-up. If this is a list of various phases/stages, then this won't work.

Thank you - this fitted well in my text, as there were only two stages. Thanks too for pointing out what the French phrase would have been, very helpful in this Flemish text.

in a second phase, as a second option

Explanation:
More context would be needed to provide a correct translation. "in tweede tijd" is close to the Dutch "in tweede instantie". In a medical context, is means mostly that another treatment/measure has been applied first. I hope this helps.

Binnen het algemeen ziekenhuis wordt de meerderheid van de patiënten met een geriatrisch profiel opgenomen op niet geriatrische diensten. Dit houdt vaak in dat geriatrische zorg pas in tweede tijd wordt aangeboden, nadat de patiënt min of meer lang gehospitaliseerd is, en nadat de behandelende specialist de geriater contacteert voor verdere behandeling van polypathologie en voor het regelen van een ontslag.
