Dutch term or phrase: muntonderzoek
This is from the diary of a clerk working in the Dept. of Fianance in Indonesia when it was still a Dutch Colony. There are two references to the title of his position, but I'm not sure how it should be translated. (mint researcher, mint investigator?) I can't find any other reference to such a position. Any suggestions are most appreciated! Thanks.

"Een van de eerste arrestanten was H. van der W., ambtenaar voor het muntonderzoek op het departement van Financiën."

"Ik was bekend met het parket van de Officier van Justitie, waar ik dagelijks door mijn werkzaamheden als ambtenaar voor het muntonderzoek over de vloer kwam."

coin inspection
Explanation:
is the initial/literal translation, but it may be the forged currency investigation department in context with the reference to the public prosecutor.

I agree - the normal translation would be coin or currency inspector, but in light of the reference to the public prosecutor and the fact that the person concerned is there daily, something along the lines of currency investigation seems more appropriate. Thank you!

mint / coinage inspection

Late in the afternoon a Mint inspector noticed the bizarre doubled cents and removed the offending die. By that time more than 40,000 pieces had been produced, about 24,000 of which had been mixed with normal cents. The decision was made to destroy the cents that were still near the press but not to disturb those mixed with others. No one at the Mint dreamed that numismatists would ever notice the variety!
Consistency was not a virtue of the United States Mint or, for that matter, of the public. In response to complaints, the offending V.D.B. initials were removed, but not before 27,995,000 were struck at Philadelphia and 484,000 at San Francisco.

The French monetary system would~probably have developed quite differently if Condorcet, Mint Inspector, Member of the Academy, mathematician of renown, as well as economist of high authority, could have made useful Proposals in theid~rection of providing France with sufficient means af payment without inflation.
