Dutch term or phrase: gedogen
The newspaper reports:
"The Dutch word for this is gedogen, which has no equivalent in English yet roughly means permitting what is officially illegal."

When I posted this on a word-board, several people said that English does have an equivalent: "to turn a blind eye."

Could someone familiar with Dutch go to that word-board and give us a better sense of the nuances of the Dutch term? Thank you.

English translation:tolerate
Explanation:
True, there is no one-to-one translation in English, but I generally use this, especially with regard to marijuana policy in the Netherlands.
