Dutch to English translations [Non-PRO] General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters | | Dutch term or phrase: gedogen | The newspaper reports:
"The Dutch word for this is gedogen, which has no equivalent in English yet roughly means permitting what is officially illegal."
When I posted this on a word-board, several people said that English does have an equivalent: "to turn a blind eye."
Could someone familiar with Dutch go to that word-board and give us a better sense of the nuances of the Dutch term? Thank you.
