The phrase 'that's when tensions can run high' occurs to me, but not sure whether the Dutch text has the same connotation. |

I know the expression 'jezelf tegenkomen' mainly from a sports context, but it is also used figuratively in other contexts. IMO it usually means 'reach/discover your limit', usually in a more or less unpleasant manner (like 'hitting the brick wall' in long-distance running).
In this relatively informal context, 'reach the end of your rope' would be a similar expression in English (among other options).
