Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters / Latijnse uitdrukking
Dutch term or phrase: qualitate qua
Deze term lijkt specifiek in Nederlandse teksten gebruikt te worden (web search), en komt weinig of niet in Engelse teksten voor.
Is het juist om dit als "ex officio" te "vertalen"??

De brontekst: “U voelt hem al aankomen: ook echte deskundigen zijn niet qualitate qua gevrijwaard van fouten.”

Mijn interpretatie: "You can see what I'm getting at: even real experts are not immune from mistakes ex officio."

(this is from a speech by a Law Psychologist addressing a meeting of scientists at a Dutch university on the subject of Expert Witnesses.)

English translation:even real experts make mistakes
Explanation:
Even real experts make mistakes. Their expertise in itself does not make them perfect.

Zo zou je het ook wellicht kunnen zeggen.

Explanation:
I wonder if this might work. Even for real experts, mistakes are an occupational hazard.

With your own translation, I feel it could even be omitted, as 'not immune from /making/ mistakes' conveys the idea sufficiently, IMO.

Qualitate qua is actually in van Dale - officially, by / in virtue of one's office, ex officio - but I'm not keen on any of those here.
