I think I will be using "return of the child" in this case. Thanks very much all for your answers.

agree  Textpertise: Repatriation brings in issues of nationality. We do not know whether the child's nationality is the same as the appellant parent or whether the child's return to the custody of that parent is repatriation or not.

agree  Robert Kleemaier: Given the presumed register of the source text and Jarry's explanation under Discussion Entries, this is IMHO the best option

repatriation

Explanation:
Thanks for clarification. I think this should indeed be translated as 'repatriation', since there is a sense of physical transfer. Alternately, the expression in the text provided by writeaway, 'restoration of custody' would be an option.

disagree  Textpertise: Repatriation brings in issues of nationality. We do not know whether the child's nationality is the same as the appellant parent's so can't say whether the child's return to the custody of that parent is repatriation or not.

-> But it was clearly indicated that the child is being returned to the country of birth.

agree  Textpertise: this extract supports Jarry. **verzoeken tot teruggeleiding** is translated as **applications for the return**. Just thought I would point that out ;-)
