Despite my dodgy internet connection, or because of it, I spend a disproportionate amount of time googling. I can ask 20 questions per week here, and have to translate 50.000 words in a little over two weeks. Do you really think I would post it here if I could find it on the internet?

This is not a simple question, Phil. It might seem that way to you, but you're a native English speaker. I'm not. It's a very important distinction and one I think you should bear in mind when expressing your irritation at "questions like these". "Bestuur-op-afstand" is clearly a technical term, not simply a matter of translating "bestuur" and "afstand". I have a dictionary and I can look it up. The fact that I'm posting it here means that I'm not sure about the answer. I think that warrants the call for help from native speakers.

If that's such a big annoyance for some of you then, please, ignore the question. Next time you're unsure about a native Dutch term that might look fine in my eyes, however, no worries: I'll help you out.

I don't think writeaway should be simply reclassifying questions as non-PRO without making constructive suggestions, but I do share his/her frustration with questions like these. Bestuur is management, afstand is distance, and Googling (or even educated guesswork) should very quickly answer this question. The asker is basically saying "I don't have a proper internet connection, so please do my job for me."

At last someone who shares my annoyance. The only contribution I ever see is that the grading of questions is changed from Pro to Non-pro. Answers? I haven't seen one for ages.

Seems to be not so much an actual body of people as a philosophy of managing. The concept is summed up admirably in a book called Distance Management by Kimball & Kimball as "managing off-site employees and virtual teams." Salespeople and other virtual employees whom you must manage mostly by e-mail and telephone...Work teams comprised of people in different locations, different countries or even different companies - all of whom are expected to work on a common project."
The literature on and courses in Distance Management address the techniques of achieving this type of management. Hope this helps.

The point of this whole document is to explain the organisational structure, especially the difference between board (bestuur) on the one hand, and (daily) management on the other. So if I start using management when I'm talking about the board, I'm thickening the mud, as we say here.

Writeaway, if Googling comes so natural to you, why do you never, ever, provide an answer? Never mind, don't answer that. You know those people who always have something to say about everything but it's never anything helpful or constructive? Why don't you use your energy to help people, instead of point out what you think they should do better? That's what this forum is about isn't it?

In addition, although I have googled extensively for both this one and the other one you were so helpful on, Google for a long time is a problem because I live in a developing country with a 2,2 kb analogue line and every page loading involves two minutes waiting. Next time, I would appreciate it if you either provided an answer or go bug someone else with your advise to use a dictionary or the Internet.
