Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology)
Dutch term or phrase: vervuiling van profiel
I am currently translating a short user guide / manual (IT-related - domain migration) and am struggling with the above term.

The context is as follows:

All suggestions welcome - KudoZ points will be awarded within 72 hours.

Many thanks,

Anne

Profile Cache Update Data
If profile caching is enabled on the ACS, as it usually is, special tables and triggers to update the profile cache may need to be enabled if database replication, or some third party application is implemented that directly modifies the CiscoSecure profile database without using the CiscoSecure dbserver module.

The cs_trans_log table—keeps track of profile data changes which are made outside of the CiscoSecure dbserver module. The information from this table is used by the dbserver to notify the ACS server to invalidate an OUTDATED profile cache.

Profile cache update triggers—can be attached to the cs_user_profile and cs_group_profile tables. When changes are made to those tables by processes operating outside the dbserver module, the triggers write a record of those changes to the cs_trans_log table.

Profile cache update triggers are installed in the process of implementing Oracle or Sybase database replication. If database replication is not implemented, installation is optional, depending upon whether or not profile caching is enabled and whether the customer is modifying the CiscoSecure profile database directly through a third-party application.

It's not going to destroy any crucial data [besides outdated profiles/extensions] - as I've learned to be a nightly tester it's not going to benefit you to make a shitload of bookmarks, a huge history file, or plant a huge number extentions in it [if your testing for regressions/ breaks it's fine - but don't overdo it on the #]. So in essence when I test I've got nothing to lose. Hopefully, the new implementation of Places will allow me to revise such thought.

corrupted profile, corruption of profile

Explanation:
A standard ICT term for data that is no longer trustworthy is 'corrupt'.

http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/releases/1.5.html
If you uninstall an extension that is installed with your **user profil**e (i.e. you installed it from a web page) and then wish to install it for all user profiles using the -install-global-extension command line flag, you must restart the browser once to cleanse the profile extensions datasource of traces of that extension before installing with the switch. If you do not do this you may end up with a jammed entry in the Extensions list and will be unable to install the extension globally.
If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, window placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, use the Firefox Safe Mode to disable all extensions, themes, and optionally attempt to clean up any **corrupted data**.

spurious data in old profile

Explanation:
I think it just means that certain data (fields) may have been gathered in the old profile, that is by now no longer valid or required (possibly outdated, but not necessarily corrupted), so it would be better not to drag all that spurious info along to the new profile.

@writeaway: A profile is a collection of personalised settings for a computing environment, e.g. your desktop background and color scheme, short cuts, etc. For the sake of argument you can compare it to the registry of your windows environment. If, at some point, you installed a program and (automatically) made some settings in the registry, it is quite common that the registry is not 'cleaned up' when you de-install the program. Such data would be outdated or spurious (to humour me), even though the rest of the registry (i.e. your profile) is very much up-to-date.
For me, it was in fact hard to imagine that such a situation would require an explanation in the first place.

neutral  writeaway: as Jarry already said in plain(er) English/but if the data is outdated, the profile is too. an up-to-date profile with outdated data? imho that would be very hard to explain.

-> no, a profile containing a.o. outdated data is not (in general, and certainly not here) an outdated profile

cluttered/messy profile

Explanation:
IMO 'vervuild' in this context simply means cluttered, messy or disorganized, i.e. the profile contains invalid, incorrect, obsolete, inconsistent, reduntant or unwanted information.
