Dutch term or phrase: burgerlijk semester
De huur zal worden gefactureerd vanaf de datum van indienststelling, en vervolgens halfjaarlijks en vooraf bij de aanvang van elk burgerlijk semester.

Would it be acceptable to translate burgerlijk semester to civil semester, or is there a better term for it?

TIA

calendar semester
Explanation:
seems it's a very unusual term in Dutch and is actually used in Spanish and Italian more. I had my suspicious as to the meaning and checking Eurodicatom did confirm what I thought, but didn't want to enter as a complete guess.

A note in the linked document:
"Burgerlijk semester : 01 Jan tot 30 Jun & 01 Jul tot 31 Dec"
Burgerlijk jaar => calendar year

\'Civil year\' is also appropriate as a translation of \'burgerlijk jaar\' and can be found in many online documents, but \'civil half year\' doesn\'t get even a single hit. \'Civil semester\' brings up only a few hits, 2 in the US and 2 in Bhutan!

  -> 'Halfjaarlijks' can refer to any six month period, whereas 'burgerlijk semester' can only refer to half a calendar year.

agree  Lawyer-Linguist: ano civil is, for example, calendar year in Portuguese too - possibly the source text was translated from a Romance language, either way the proposed answer is correct

agree  David Haymes: If I'd followed my own logic, I should have chosen this too!

  -> yesterday was not one of my better days and when I saw this today, was very surprised to see you had mentioned calendar year. as you say-you didn't follow through with the line of thought you started.I'd only have made a peer comment if I'd noticed that.
