Explanation: your Griebling link shows we are dealing here with "truly authentic Dutch legalese" :-)
you can also use: depot van een model / een model deponeren
(stukken deponeren - file documents)
I think you should translate "modeldepot verrichten" as a unit here: file a design application
"modeldepot" would translate as "filing a design"
6.1. Design protection
In Europe, design can be protected as a registered industrial property right at a national level by filing a design at a national office under individual national laws, or at Community level by virtue of the Community design. It allows a company to protect its creation and prevent other parties using the design without consent, and therefore encourages investment in new product development.
IATE: datum van depot/datum van indiening = date of filing
IATE: te kwader trouw verricht depot/te kwader trouw aangevraagd merk = trade mark applied for in bad faith
Juridisch Lexicon:
depot (intellectueel eigendomsrecht, octrooi) = filing
dit recht is verkregen door eerste depot van dit merk bij het Benelux-Merkenbureau te Den Haag = this right was acquired by first filing this trademark with ....
depot te kwader trouw - filing in bad faith
een internationaal depot verrichten = to file an international patent application
Yes, patents can be very tricky. I think that I might ask over at TranslatorsCafe; I seem to remember Graham P. Oxtoby specialises in patents. Incidentally, Graham is the man behind the new Groot Polytechnische Woordenboek, which is now called the "Comprehensive Dictionary of Industry & Technology NL-EN/EN-NL" ... So far it is very good; I subscribed to the online version, while waiting for the CD to be ready. Possibly Michael. Patent stuff can be very tricky however, so it might be worthwhile checking this with your client if nobody else on ProZ KudoZ comes up with a reliable solution.
... "design registrations" ? .... -> +- "The company has registered designs, and has patents pending." Misschien zoiets? /// a haa, ik vind net iets interessants: http://www.griebling.nl/modellen_13.html

Thanks Barend! (Sorry Jack, but I think this is more general.)
Explanation: Uit IATE blijkt dat 'internationaal depot van tekeningen of modellen van nijverheid' wordt vertaald als 'international deposit of industrial designs' (zie hieronder). Tip: google verder op 'industrial design deposit'.

Utility Model
The utility model is the intellectual property right for protecting the inventions. It is somehow described as the statutory monopoly which is bestow upon for the fixed duration of time in exchange to the inventor for the offering of the sufficient teaching of the invention and permitting the other person, possessing the ordinary skills of the relevant art, of performing the invention. The rights granted under the utility model are somewhat identical to those conferred upon by the patent but are more considerable for using the term 'incremental inventions'. Sometimes words like 'petty patent', 'innovation patent', 'minor patent' and 'small patent' are used in reference of the utility model. Such models are considered to be more suitable particularly for the small scale enterprises, which in turns make the 'minor' improvements with the adaption of the existing products. Utility models are more commonly used for the mechanical innovations.
