Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law: Taxation & Customs
Dutch term or phrase: Bezw.
I presume that in the following sentence, "Bezw." can be understood to designate "Bezwaarschrift(?)". However, would this usually be abbreviated in English, and if so, to what?

Het beroep is gericht tegen de uitspraak van de inspecteur, kenmerk Bezw. 2000/21, waarbij het bezwaar tegen de uitnodigingen tot betaling inzake de aangiften over de maanden november 2000 tot en met mei 2001 is afgewezen.

Thanks in advance!

Explanation:
against the tax inspector's ruling.

I tend to agree with Kate about leaving it in the reference, perhaps phrasing it as
...appeal against the tax inspector's ruling,
reference Bezw. 2000/21, in which the objection was ....

claim

Explanation:
it seems quite obvious to be the abbreviation of Bezwaarschrift, where I would consider 'claim' as the best translation

TA: Tax Appeal

Explanation:
'In English': in the UK, tax appeal doesn't usually abbreviate. In the US, it does to TA.

Tax Appeal *Notice would get across the *-schrift part, but TAN is not a widespread abbreviation either.

My pref.would be TAA = Tax Assessment Appeal whilst, in Oz, it means Tax Administration Act

I doubt leaving the abbreviation in the Dutch - even if a ref. -would help, rather hinder, the reader. In fact, some trans. clients - esp. lawyers - insist on abbreviations and acronyms being spelt out.

Example sentence(s):
  • are not valid the appeal will not proceed. Stage Two Appeal Panel. A Panel will be established to hear Stage Two *Appeals against Assessment* Board decisions. ...
  • Tax Appeals Chapter 4. State Board of Equalization (Property Valuation) ... shall submit the Board's appeal form *TA*-200/84 attached as Exhibit A. (TA-200/84 ...
