Law: Taxation & Customs
Dutch term or phrase: Maandbrief
This occurs in a wage statement for an offshore worker. Other things in the list are income tax, health insurance and other insurances which one would normally expect. The sequence is opgenomen voorschotten, kantine artikelen, maandbrief, bank/giro, diversen, diversen. Literally it is just monthly letter of course but I wonder if this makes sense in this context. A clue may lie in the fact that the text dates back to the 1970 s. Any help would be gratefully received.

(US) monthly voluntary earnings-assignment log; (UK) monthly pay transfer slip
Explanation:
Paid over to children or the spouse instead of to the worker at sea who signs the log.

Voluntary clogs up the phraseology, but included for the US where assignment of earnings is akin to the UK compulsory attachment of earnings of a judgment/execution debtor.

Mahnbrief in DE - a dunning letter - is a false friend.

I trust no one is going to lift my answer again and change around a few words e.g. record for log.
