In Belgium you have to submit a declaration of the intent to marry to the Civil Registry. Once it is approved, you can marry within the next 6 months and after 2 weeks, I think. After these 6 months, you have to submit a new one. From other legal sources, I gather that 'bedingen' in the intransitive sense means that the person in question is allowed to act legally in their own name/on behalf of another (for company directors, for example), so the bride-to-be is of age and allowed to make her own decisions legally. I would keep it with future spouse. |

The only other meaning is to stipulate but stipulate requires an object, i.e. what is stipulated, and that is not present in this instance, hence my suggestion that it means "agreeing". It is difficult to stretch the meaning of bedingen to encompass "acting". |
