Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general) / Court rulings
Dutch term or phrase: afhankelijk
The sentence reads: "Dit is het resultaat van rechtspraak die als partijdig en afhankelijk moet worden gekwalificeerd." I don't find "dependent/dependant" a good solution here? Would "bound" cover this? It concerns legal proceedings in a country where judges might be influenced by political interests etc.

politically motivated
Explanation:
In a legal context, I would normally translate 'partijdig en afhankelijk' as 'partial and biased' (see also Wessel's answer).
In this specific context, it might be that 'partial and politically motivated' fits the bill better. Or 'biased and politically motivated' if you prefer.

If you want then you can use other terma such as "partial", prejudiced, displaying favouritism, discriminatory etc all having more or less the same message: Not honest!

agree  Kitty Brussaard: I would normally use 'partial and biased' for 'partijdig en afhankelijk'. In this specific context, 'partial and politically motivated' would be another viable option. See my answer below.

It is not a translation I know, but in this context would 'biased and unreliable' fit the bill?

discretionary

Explanation:
One of Van Dale's definitions of afhankelijk, this is usually the meaning of the word when used in the context of a legal decision. I think it will fit your context in the sense that the judgment has been made at the discretion of the judges and not necessarily in accordance with the strict provisions of the law.

@writeaway - discretionary fits the context perfectly.
For discussions on the meaning of a discretionary judgment, please see
http://tinyurl.com/69b9ejj. Please note that I said "strict" provisions of the law. The use of discretion is within the law but the implication here is that the judges are allowing political considerations to influence their discretion and consequently their rulings are flawed when viewed by the standards of the Dutch courts.

neutral  writeaway: context is everything. this is the findings of a Dutch court and it relates to a verdict by a Russian court in Russia. The judges there were following the law, of course.

partisan

Explanation:
Another option.

E.g. -> "Bush CIA nominee 'too partisan'
A Democrat on the Senate intelligence committee has said US President George W Bush's nominee for CIA director is too close to the White House. Senator Jay Rockefeller told a hearing on Congressman Porter Goss' nomination he lacked the independence to restore credibility to intelligence agencies. ... "Having reviewed your record closely, I have a number of concerns about whether your past partisan actions and statements will allow you to be the type of non-partisan, independent and objective national intelligence adviser our country needs," he said."
