Hmm - the only thing wrong with things being implicit in the answer, is when the dictionary doesn't provide back up! That's why I highlighted it in my text, because none of the dictionary definitions came close to 'reported'. And anyway, somebody else had reported X missing, if you see what I mean, which was throwing me off the scent. I was playing with things like 'circulated the description of' (you know, linked to 'signalement'). But anyway... I quite like 'identified'.
