Context:

I'm still in the process of proof-reading (well, more of a grammar check!) a legal translation done by a friend of mine, and am wondering how best to translate "tenietgaan" with regard to an inanimate object. Would "demise" be an appropriate term to use?

I received my copy of the Van den End Juridisch Lexicon yesterday (very useful it is, too!), and the appropriate translation for this term (in this context) does indeed appear to be "to be lost".

I wouldn't use 'demise'


Explanation:
with regard to an inanimate object.

Possibilities are (further to the previous answer): perish, to come to nothing or lapse (said of e.g. rights)etc.

It all depends on the object which 'tenietgaat'.
