Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering / metalworking
Dutch term or phrase: (hoek)vertanding
General context: a PR blurb for a combined grinding/finishing disc for grinding down weld seams in stainless-steel constructions.

Source: Belgian

The following bullet item appears under 'Toepassingen':

'Afwerken van hoeken en -vertandingen'

That's it for the context. First of all, I can't decide whether this is supposed to be read as 'hoeken en hoekvertandingen' or 'hoeken en vertandingen' (there's another 'dubious' hyphen elsewhere in the text, and the general style is a bit hurried), and second, I don't know whether this is supposed to be understood in the context of sheet-metal products (which is the general context of all the rest of the text).

Kluwer Werktuigbouwkunde: vertanding = teeth, gear teeth, toothed wheelwork; gebogen vertanden = spiral toothing.

As for the hyphen problem, my bet would be that author does indeed mean 'hoekvertanding'. In my opinion, a mistake like writing 'hoeken en -vertandingen' instead of 'hoeken en -hoekvertandingen' is easier done than inadvertently typing a hyphen if one is in a hurry. But I suppose only the client would be able to help you out on that point!
