De afwijking wordt gecorrigeerd door middel van een bahco op de gearbox te zetten en de gearbox te dwingen.

Explanation:
Het werkwoord "dwingen" wordt in Nederland niet in deze context gebruikt, misschien in het Vlaams. Aangezien het installatie instructies betreft zou ik zeker geen onduidelijke woorden als "force" gebruiken die voor velerlei uitleg vatbaar zijn. "Force" suggereert al snel dat er veel kracht moet worden gebruikt, maar hoeveel en hoelang en hoe vaak? Dergelijke misverstanden zullen de instructeurs dus willen vermijden. ("It said I had to force it into position. I did, and it snapped!" Get the picture?)
Aangezien de brontekst al een vertaling lijkt te zijn ("gearbox" is in Nederlands echt niet gebruikelijk en "door middel van" in deze tekst is niet correct gebruikt), lijkt me ook dat "dwingen" dus niet al te letterlijk moet worden vertaald.
Al met al kom ik tot een meer neutrale instructie als "move" of "shift".

Note to your question:
Alignment is the procedure which is described here not the actual handling of the gearbox. You cannot "align to the right or align to the left", but you can "align the gearbox by moving it to the right or left."

Thank you KJP! I knew there was a reason why they hadn't simply used uitlijnen (which they had before)! You are absolutely right about the quality of the source. They had even written "bahco" as "baco" (that had me going too for a while).
