Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Dutch term or phrase: maatvastheid
This is text relating to a machine engineered to assist in the suckling of young animals, in which the various elements can be delivered in a range of sizes.

The following sentence relates to the text so as to provide some context.

"Doordat in de praktijk blijkt dat het voor een aannemer moeilijk is om de opgegeven maatvoering uit te voeren, is besloten een Balance Frame te ontwikkelen om daarmee niet meer afhankelijk te zijn van de maatvastheid van de aannemer."

I presume that in this sentence "een aannemer" is a contractor and that "maatvoering" refers to the various sizes available. Most dictionaries give "dimensional stability" as a translation of "maatvastheid", but here I feel it is more to do with the fact that the "aannemer" is limited in the range of "maten" that can be manufactured. Am I right to think this? Any suggestions would be welcome!

here: dimensional accuracy
Explanation:
Here it refers to the (in)ability of the contractor responsible for preparing the installation location for the frame / skid (mounting studs in a concrete slab?) to achieve the required dimensional accuracy.

IMO, the contractor has nothing to do with the construction of the machine or frame itself. Also, it is irrelevant what the required dimensions (and/or machine size ranges) are. This refers strictly to the contractor not being able to do his part of the work *within the tolerances* specified for the various dimensions.
In a simple case one could 'solve' this by providing the frame with sufficiently large (slotted) mounting holes. Frankly, I have no idea what a 'balance frame' is and how that solves the problem...

agree  Margreet Logmans: It's not the variety in sizes as such that's problematic, but the fact that each size has its own specs for the installation (or so it seems).
