If you search the EU IATE database for the word duse, the mechanical engineering term that comes up is bean for duse.

Asker: beans? Your link is a dead-end... At the moment leaning towards German: nozzle.

Asker: Ah, so that's a bean.

Asker: Interesting conundrum; is it the French or the German word I'm looking for! Company is Frisian, so German is more likely. I'll have to ask them. Thanks.

nozzles

Explanation:
Wikipaedia gives:"A nozzle is a mechanical device designed to control the direction or characteristics of a fluid flow as it exits (or enters) an enclosed chamber or pipe via an orifice" which fits the context very well.

Example sentence(s):
  • A nozzle is a mechanical device designed to control the direction or characteristics of a fluid flow as it exits (or enters) an enclosed chamber or pipe via an orifice

Asker: Ta, but I've since found an image of a duse (which is copy-protected), and it's not a nozzle. More like some kind of pipe ring with a two perforated rims. Anyway the jobs out of my hand now!
