In verband met het doormaken van recidief decompensatio cordis waarvoor medicamenteuze recompensatie werd besloten om een ICD te geven.
Is this just a complicated way of saying treated with medication?
Agree with the above. IMO the awkward wording means: The patient has cardiac insufficiency which, though treated by drugs, has relapsed and a decision has now been taken to go for pacemaker implantation. One would not say in English "give" an ICD.
..my reasoning being that you could use the British National Formulary (open a free account at <http://www.BNF.org> to look up the drugs, and see if they are used to treat CHF OR whether they cause it as a long term side effect...
