Dutch term or phrase: achterbankpatiënt
Betreft chronisch zieke (jong-volwassen) kinderen die weinig betrokken zijn bij hun ziekte, minder volwassen en niet zelfstandig. Hun motto is: "Als mijn ouders het maar weten, dan is het goed". De term "achterbankpatiënt" slaat op deze kinderen, die zich ook bij ieder onderzoek of opname in het ziekenhuis door hun ouders met de auto laten brengen. Weet iemand een goede vertaling? Thanks!

I doubt whether there is a direct translation for this, but in essence these young patients are "taking a back seat", and entrusting their care / treatment decisions etc. to their parents.

don't know if this fits the context here, but thought I'd offer another suggestion - this expression can be used literally and/or figuratively in many cases....in the sense of letting someone else make all their decisions for them.
