At the end of surgery, 'bloedleegte' is released.
"sluiten van de wonde na lossen van de bloedleegte"

I guess this is to do with a blood-free surgical environment.

Any ideas for translating 'bloedleegte' much appreciated.

I think that in this instance they're referring to a "bloedleegte band":

e.g. "Soms is bloedleegte nodig. Dat wil zeggen dat de operatie zal plaatsvinden in een bloedloos gebied. Het bloed wordt uit het operatiegebied weggemasseerd en met een opgepompte bloeddrukband wordt het gebied "bloedleeg" gehouden. Zo"n bloedleegte band geeft een strak gevoel om de arm. Aan het eind van de ingreep wordt de band weer verwijderd, zodat het bloed weer kan doorstromen."

Rather than just "bloedleegte", since the band or tourniquet is being released (rather than the "bloodless". So this could be "tourniquet" specifically,

agree  Kate Hudson: This is often in the context of operations on limbs where a tourniquet is applied and released at the end of the operation allowing the blood to return to the limb. Many references for this.

blood vacuum


Explanation:
My best guess. Found several references on sites that did not allow copying the URL. For example there are pumps and compressors to create a blood vacuum.

vessel clamps


Explanation:
vessel clamps are removed after
embolization (or: vessel occlusion)
which controls active bleeding during surgery.
