  -> Fascial tension can compel the body into a particular posture. De NLse zin is overigens raar. "Fascia veroorzaken houding door fasciale trek...."

neutral  orangeworld: with Tina
8 hrs
  -> Compel of course is the verb. The tension compels the body. See above.

distorts posture

Explanation:
I think you need to translate 'een bepaalde houding dwingen' together as one phrase.

Example sentence(s):
  • Hyper-tense muscles are the main features of muscular armouring and this reduces range of movement and distorts posture.

agree  Denimmish: I think you are right about using the whole phrase, "may force the adopting of a certain posture" might work as well.

control

Explanation:
Because the muscles and connective tissue directly control posture, ... (http://www.wellnessimages.com/January_2005_Newsletter.htm)

This fascia controls the length, shape and tonus of a muscle much more than the actual muscle fibers themselves. (http://www.rolfbodywork.net/pelvic/pelvic_myofascia.html)

How about "force a certain posture" as another option - compel to me seems to be something more commonly used in the context of people i.e. one person forcing another person to do something, rather than in the context of things.

neutral  Lianne Van De Ven: control in this context is typically reserved for voluntary or functional control.
