Medical - Medical (general) / abbreviation
Dutch term or phrase: ikv
I'm having great difficulty finding the meaning of the Dutch abbreviation "ikv" in the context of lung disease. Extensive Googling hasn't helped.

Here is how it was used:

Fijn reticulair verdichtingspatroon met indruk van discrete zones van honeycombing posterobasaal in beide longonderkwabben: mogelijks ikv beginnend interstitieel longlijden (bv. type UIP).

Explanation:
I came back to this page and saw the argument

I don't see why 'as part of the onset' would be an inappropriate wording or so.

What the writer is saying is that these chest X-ray findings possibly have occurred as part of the onset of interstitial lung disease

you consider a process
this process is called insterstitial lung disease
this process follows a more or less defined course with a number of stages, say early (onset), halfway, advanced, final

now we observe fine reticular markings and what seem to be focal areas of honeycombing in the left and right lower lobes at the posterior lung base

and can't we say now that these phenomena have possibly occured as part of the beginning of this process called insterstitial lung disease?

we say this because these phenomena generally ARE PART of the beginning of this process called ILD

Before one can attempt to change the knowledge level of the public, it is important to understand what the current knowledge level and attitudes are. Our results suggest the need for public education to broaden the range of symptoms expected *AS PART OF THE ONSET OF AMI.*

Immuno-crossreaction with rat cerebellar homogenates demonstrated that the 58-kDa antigen was developmentally regulated, showing the greatest immunoreactivity at embryonic day 15. The 58-kDa cerebellar antigen may represent a membrane protein which is re-expressed *as part of the onset of MS*.

Hi I'm 41 yrs old and have been having period like bleeding for 2 weeks now. My periods were always very regular and light with very little pain but over the last year they have become very heavy, painfull and progressively closer together and lasting for longer. I saw my GP 2 weeks ago and was given pain killers and hormone tablets. The pain killers took the edge off the pain but the bleeding continued.
I saw another GP a week later and she carried out an internal, stating my uterus was "bulky". She gave me stronger hormone tablets and told me to come back in 2 weeks following an ultrasound scan. She did suggest depending on the results that I may benefit from an IUS (not keen on that at all as heard such horror stories). Had my scan and nothing was visitble other than my uterus is enlarged. Was told at my scan my symptoms were likely to be pre menopausal and that I would kind of have to put up with it.
Feel as if the GP isn't really listening to how this is effecting me now. Has anyone gone through similar AS PART OF THE ONSET OF THE MENOPAUSE and how did you deal with it?

I go with Barend, but I wouldn't put it like that. Hence my reply. Literally it means 'within the ramework of' or something of the kind (already in Kudoz), but I can't see that in a medical context.

neutral  Barend van Zadelhoff: I don't believe the writer says 'related', he says this: these findings may indicate this IS interstitional lung disease / he is considering the diagnosis of ILD and says this could BE ILD / see my answer //s/he is not sure yet, therefore: possibly
