Explanation: I think there is nothing wrong with it - you can find quite some examples of it in Google.
BTW, I would not translate 'verspreide' as 'extensive', but as 'diffuse'.
I would suggest something like
'... diffuse areas of parietal thickening that showed segmental uptake'...
