notch
Explanation:
Without seeing the weapon system involved, this would seem a logical answer. With an ordinary rifle, you align the rearsight notch and the foresight bead with the target. Most rifles have a rearsight notch that be raised or lowered, but some have a series of notched leaf sights for different ranges. Modern target acquisition systems, though electronic, can also align the target with a virtual 'notch'.
