Dutch to English translations [PRO] Music | | Dutch term or phrase: samengestelde binaire maat | Still on the subject of African music, I'd like some advice on the proper musical phrasing of one sentence in particular. The text concerns the "nwomkoro", once a purely vocal genre, now accompanied by various instruments (drums, rattles, bells). Phrases I'm stumbling over are "de groove is ternair samengesteld" (posted separately) and "samengestelde binaire maat".
De voorzanger begint met het reciteren van de liedtekst, gevolgd door de dubbele en de enkele bel die een ostinaat cross rhythm spelen. Daarna vallen de verschillende trommels in en wordt er een vaste cadans gespeeld. De groove, gespeeld door de atoke [= single bell] en de dawuro [= double bell], is ternair samengesteld maar naargelang het verloop van het nummer verandert het in een samengestelde binaire maat.
Best effort so far, based on research rather than musical knowledge (!):
"The groove (? main beat?), played by the atoke and the dawuro, is in compound triple time, but as the number progresses it changes to compound duple time." |
