Je zou kunnen doen wat ik hier in de VS regelmatig doe: letterlijke vertalingen van "sayings from the Old Country". Niet de meest elegante oplossing, maar het geeft natuurlijk wel de sfeer van de oorspronkelijke tekst.

neutral  xxxjarry: Quite apart from the wisdom of this decision, I would at least ensure that the order of words sounds mo re like English! (it was time to row back to the shore once more). Maybe that isn't long enough to become a near native speaker.

  -> I should have added a comma after once again. Otherwise, it's perfectly good American English, as far as I know, I'm not a native speaker, I've only been here for 29 years.
agree  Tina Vonhof: This is a possibility but I agree with Jarry re: word order. And it is 'back to shore' , not 'the' shore. 'Once again' at the beginning would mean that this is not the first time.
