Dutch term or phrase: bronhouder
In a slide show about the 'Basisregistraties Adressen en Gebouwen' (Key register for addresses and buildings). I came across the term bronhouder. Not much context:

original data holder

Explanation:
I think this might do, but I'm not quite sure if this is the right term in your context.

"Systems with guaranteed source attribution are capable of being accurate, current and auditable, and in the context of anonymization-based systems such pedigree pointers enable “selective revelation” … whereby the ** original data holder ** has complete determinism over any revelation (de-cloaking) event based on law and policy."

agree  Neil Cross: Has the advantage of being closer to the Dutch. Is the data holder subtly different from the data owner? I'm not sure, but I would go for this option just to be on the safe side! Some nice hits on: http://www.google.com/search?q="original data holder"

agree  Marijke Singer: 'owner' is the buzz word in IT. I would use this term without reservations.

-> Thanks, Marijke (:-{)> // Absolutely - my original reason for suggesting this answer

neutral  Neil Cross: 'Data owner' is certainly commonly used in IT, but is it the correct translation here? It may very well be, but I'm not entirely sure (hence the 'neutral'). I still think there’s a distinction between 'holder' and 'owner'.//You're probably right :-)
16 hrs
-> Thanks, Neil (:-{)> As the context given says the source owner (or holder) records / enters the data, I think we can go with owner
