Dutch term or phrase: felle flits lang niets kunnen schelen
Wat betekent "felle flits lang niets kunnen schelen"? Is het een soort van vaste uitdrukking? Ik heb dat gevonden in een kort verhaal dat door een Vlaamse schrijfster werd geschreven (Annelies Verbeke). Het is te vinden in de volgende zin: "Dat haar moeder zelf nog niet heeft gebeld, heeft vast een goede reden, een reden die Nicolette een felle flits lang niets kan schelen". Misschien heeft die betrekking tot iets dat kortstondig is, niet lang bestaat? Ik wou graag het antwoord in het Engels zien.

Explanation:
Ik ben vrij zeker dat dat is wat Verbeke bedoelde. Ik ben er niet erg van onder de indruk, maar dat daargelaten.

Een flits is een 'flash' en dat kan wel gebruikt worden in die context, ook in het Engels.

'For a bright flash long' is ook een mogelijkheid, maar dat is vreemd om dat het eigenlijk een contradictie in terminis is die dan nog wordt versterkt door een eigenlijk slechte zinsstructuur. Eigenlijk vind ik dat laatste ook over het origineel, maar in het Nederlands kan dat beter (naar mijn mening). Je zegt in het Engels ook niet 'for a moment long' tenzij je echt heel formeel wil zijn, en dat is niet Verbeke.

sounds a bit more like a possible saying. The Dutch is rather inventive and doesn't have an equivalent in English IMO.

Bon, literatuur was een beetje een groot woord, die Deb Kastner blijkt stationsromannetjes te schrijven, maar ach, dat maakt het voorbeeld er niet minder bruikbaar om...
