X zou bij Y gekomen zijn en in principe zouden ze mandaag gaan. Dat hoort Y wel, want dat is goed en dat is klaar.
Firstly - I'm confused about the 2 occurrences of 'zou/zouden' in the first bit, and secondly I have seen 'hij hoort hem wel' 'ik hoor het wel''hij hoort het dan wel' 'jij hoort mij' and I'm struggling with the nuance. They aren't shouting at each other (as in 'yes, ok, I can hear you, no need to shout) and they're not repeating stuff (as in, 'yes, ok, I heard you the first time), so what else can it mean? In a conversation, can it mean 'I've understood that' or 'I'm still listening'? Help please!

Still unsure of the tenses in that - I would expect to see 'X would have dropped in at Y's place and they would have gone' or 'X would drop by at Y's and they would go'. (Or am I being too picky about the grammar?!) But the second bit of the answer has clarified an awful lot - thank you!
