Meestal wordt het anker na het afmeren weer thuisgehieuwd en als dat niet kan, dan wordt zoveel **ketting bijgestoken** totdat de ketting op en neer wijst uit de ankerkluis."
Unfortunately, they didn't teach me much about navigation in law school, and the entire last sentence doesn't make any sense to me. Anyone who can explain what it means and give a hint as to how I can say all this in English will have my eternal gratitude. |

Ik doe dit even in het Nederlands, is wat gemakkelijker:
Bij het ankeren laat je terwijl je achteruit vaart het anker in het water zakken en je steekt net zolang ketting bij (laat de ankerketting vieren) tot het anker houdt (grip heeft). Dat laatste kun je zien doordat de ankerketting strak trekt en naar voren wijst. Als het anker niet houdt, bijvoorbeeld omdat het de bodem nog niet heeft bereikt, hangt de ankerketting recht naar beneden.

Or: pay out the anchor rode
After lowering the anchor, either drift back or slowly reverse while paying out the anchor rode, in order to ensure the anchor is set (holding firm)
