Explanation:
a really really wild guess: the salvage context makes me think of a giant steel press, like the ones you see used for crushing old cars.
No idea if any steel in marine salvage would be crushed like that though. If it is, then 'knijpen' seems a very mild term for such a violent process.

omdat het om een bergingsmaatschappij gaat die actief is op zee breng ik knijpen in verband met het opruimen van wrakken
die worden met een knijper naar boven gehaald

"knijpen" = opruimen / opvissen / naar boven halen van wrakken

Er staat in "De Ingenieur" nr. 12 van 15 augustus een artikel over deze knijper, compleet met vergelijkings foto van de knijper met een oude Engelse dubbeldekker. Zal het artikel morgen even inscannen en posten.

"Dat heeft minder knijpkracht tot gevolg en het risico dat er weinig materiaal van het gezonken wrak naar boven komt"

Knijpertje is gesignaleerd op de Noordzee volgens mij bij de berging van de MSC Napoli En dat is weer een klussie van Euro Demolition Beverwijk

Dit is volgens mij een knijper die al wat uren meer in het water heeft doorgebracht, kijk maar naar de kleur van dat bovenste frame en de constructie ervan
