in your context, 'venster' refers to diverse types of 'lichtopeningen': lights in English

Light: A window; a pane of glass within a window. Double-hung windows are designated by the number of lights in upper and lower sash, as in six-over-six. Also spelled informally lite.

IATE

lichtopening - light

light: the portion of a window which is confined by the casement or the jambs, sill and window frame head and/or the mullion

So:

a. Lights: windows, deadlights and portholes
b. Windows: openings in the hull closed by glass

NL: lichtrand
EN: deadlight
Definitie Nederlands: Aan de huid geklonken of gelaste messing of stalen rand, waarin een dik stuk spiegelglas blijvend is vastgezet
Definitie Engels: A heavy round glass or bull's eye inserted in a door or skylight to give light inside.

lichtrand (deadlight, porthole, scuttle)
