Dutch to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / sneltram
Dutch term or phrase: sneltram
Just the word sneltram as opposed to a regular, ordinary tram.
I found light rail rapid transit, however I wonder whether this is the right translation or maybe it should be light rail rapid transit tram?

I appreciate any help in advance.

rapid transit

Explanation:
context _is_ important: are we talking about the system or about a physical tram?

"express tram" seems to be a registered name for a rapid transit system in Detroit, "high speed tram" seems to be used mainly in Russia, "rapidtram" is the name of a system in Malaysia, and for the Dutch rapid transit systems in Amsterdam and Utrecht, different sources give different names.
Using the "sneltram" between Nieuwegein and Utrecht a lot myself, I find that the name is normally used to denote the system, not the individual streetcars.
rapid transit seems a relatively neutral term for the system, talking about the individual streetcar, one could use "rapid transit car" or "rapid transit train", where I would prefer "train"over "tram" because "train" is more universally known and accepted.

neutral  writeaway: express tram is not a registerded name and I don't understand how a sneltram can be translated as rapid transit whether in Holland or in Belgium

Thank you.
Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you for your help, however after having chosen 'express tram' the client told me that the correct term is 'LRV' - light rail vehicle. The client is an expert on this matter; I had requested the client for the correct word and when no reply was sent I posted my query on this site. The client only replied 2 days after receiving the translation. Now we all know the correct answer.

neutral  Bryan Crumpler: I only disagree with the oversimplication into UK/US categories. Streetcars / light rail / cable cars / trolleys / trolley cars / trams are all names used in the US. Varies based on what the city decides to name it.
