Dutch term or phrase: wij mochten...

Wij mochten binnen de wettelijke termijn gesteld door art 14 van de Wet van Handelshuurovereenkomsten van 30 april 1951 en zelfs tot vandaag geen antwoord van u ontvangen, zodat wij verplicht zijn mede u te delen dat wij niet langer een hernieuwing van de huurovereenkomst kunnen toekennen.

Non capisco perché abbiano usato il verbo mogen (qui mochten) in qs frase e non so come renderlo.

Capisco che il conduttore non ha risposto entro i termini e quindi per legge il locatore ha facoltà di non rinnovare il contratto, ma è la costruzione grammaticale della frase che mi lascia perplessa...

ricevuto... è solo un linguaggio un po' burocratico, nel senso di "non siamo stati in grado di ricevere risposta" (sottinteso: perché tu non ci hai risposto).
