Dear colleagues,

Here is the sentence:

We will then check with the offshore jurisdiction if those names are available for incorporation.

What does this «available» mean? Is it just “not used” by any other company? (This is what I think, just not 100% sure.) Or is it something else?

agree  Armorel Young: My layman's instinct is that it means a) not already in use and b) conforming with any regulations that may restrict the use of certain words/names/characters

  -> you're right about regulations; the name "ABCD Bank" may be available, but still usually some permission is required for its use; we do not know if the systems checks only a-type availability or a- and b-type; thanks!
