English term or phrase:Cover page vs. banner page
I wonder if someone can tell me what is the difference between the two (e.g. in the contents)? I am talking about printouts and printing jobs.
Explanation: A banner page is "an identification page printed at the beginning of a print job by many print spoolers. It serves as a title page and separator between print jobs" (Computer Desktop Encyclopedia).
I have not heard of "cover page" used in the printing context. It is mostly used here for a summary page placed on top of a number of items sent as a package. For example, when you send a fax, the first page usually serves to identify the sender, the recipient, the documents faxed (or at least the number of pages).
I can see how the term would serve in the printing context, similar to "banner page," but I have not seen used that way.

In the context of fax, a cover page is a page added at the beginning of the faxed stack of pages to identify the sender and recipient by name, organization, and contact info; state the numebr of pages to be faxed, and may contain a brief comment, like \"Here are the documents that you requested.\" These days, people add a legal statement at the bottom about confidentiality. In this sense, a cover page for a fax is in some sense like a cover letter accompanying a series of documents, except that cover letters tend to be more formal and carry more weight.
Most fax software include cover page templates to choose from. The sender needs only to fill in the blanks.
