opposite

English translation: the opposite/other side

01:14 Feb 16, 2008
English language (monolingual) [Non-PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general)
English term or phrase: opposite
patent translation from Chinese to English:
"...on a surface on said carrier substrate opposite said die attachment surface"

Since I know for a fact both surfaces are on the carrier substrate (one on the top surface and the other on the bottom surface), would it be more accurate to say:

"...on a surface on said carrier substrate REVERSE TO said die attachment surface;"

The first sentence (with "opposite") seems to mean the two surfaces are opposite each other across some distance.

Hope I have made myself clear.

Thanks.

agree  Jennifer Levey: Yes. The opposite (sic) of reverse is ... obverse (as in the 2 faces of a coin). Here, opposite refers to the 'other' face wrt to the die attachment surface, which we would generally call the 'opposite' surface.
