Medical: Health Care / (hospital discharge sheet)
English term or phrase: Orthopaedic, Public
Could somebody please suggest what the following means:
"Frank Smith, Orthopaedic, Public" in the context of a Discharge Information Sheet (Midland Reg. Hospital)?
It is under the patient's name and there is no explanation.

English translation:orthopaedic department, National Health patient
Explanation:
I would imagine (though I don't have specialist knowledge) that it means that this patient is being / has been treated in the Orthopaedic Department, and is a National Health patient (i.e., not 'private'), as payment for the 2 systems is different in the UK.

As for SHO, that is the usual abbreviation for Senior House Officer, one of the grades in hospital doctors.
