English term or phrase: Achievement of emmetropia is not necessarily a desirable postoperative goal
Achievement of emmetropia is not necessarily a desirable postoperative goal, and factors such as visual status of the fellow eye and patient life style must be considered in determining the lens power to be sued.
Sounds a little weird to me. I have never used contact lens, let alone any eyeglasses. :-) Can somebody kindly help explain it a little?
TIA!!!

English translation:achievement of perfect vision in the operated eye alone is not the chief goal
Explanation:
emmetropia n. the condition of normal refraction of light in the eye, in which vision is perfect.

What this is saying is that the objective of the operation is not merely to achieve perfect vision in the operated eye, but to take a much more broader view of the matter and take into account the life style and the condition of the other eye and then decide upon the power of the lens to be inserted in the operated eye.

The choice of lens thus arrived at may or may not be the one that ensures perfect vision, but it will be the most appropriate for the patient, considering the other factors.
