English term or phrase: script era
What is meant by the "script era"? Thanks.

Context:
Yet, many sales organizations remain mired in old ruts. In their hearts, many salespeople are nostalgic for the old “script era” of half a century ago. They want to find a prospect, make a pitch and close a sale. But that’s not how life works any more.

English translation:the era of memorized sales presentations
Explanation:
When all sales prospects were considered to be the same, sales presentations were scripted and memorized. Now, companies realize that different people have different needs, wants, fears hopes, desires, etc., so the presentation has to be flexible to accomodate a diverse clientele.
