English term or phrase: real life lamb
Theri lives ran on agricultural calendar and someone brought an honest-to-goodness, real-life lamb into show-and-tell in spring.

Does it mean "they brought a real and alive lamb for shown and tell game in spring"?

agree  Sheila Wilson: "show and tell" isn't a game - it's when school kids show others things they've found, and there is class discussion

agree  Carol Gullidge: yes to both of you! The kids bring in something to illustrate an event, etc, or simply something interesting to discuss, depending... The idea is to get the child to talk about his or her item in front of the other children

agree  NancyLynn: literally - show the item and tell the story about it. It's an educational tool

agree  Ken Cox: 'honest-to-goodness' and 'real-life' are cliches -- the speaker is just making sure that the reader or listener understands that a real, live lamb is meant (not just a picture of a lamb or a plastic play figure, as might occur in an urban school)
