English term or phrase: on 'change
Greetings,

1. John Galsworthy wrote a novel, "On Forsyte Change."

2. Charles Dickens's "The Old Curiosity Shop", Chapter IV:
"(Mr Quilp) made appointments on 'Change with men in glazed hats and round jackets pretty well every day."
Could someone please give me insight into what this expression means?

Thank you,

Simon

agree  Derek Gill Franßen: That certainly makes sense (given the amount of context and my lack of motivation to go looking for the rest). ;-)

-> I've checked Russian translations of both the Dicken's novel and Galsworthy's story, In both cases it was translated as "stock exchange". The translators are excellent and famous.
