Both terms with the same meaning, as I see it, can be found in scientific journals associated with ea. ligands, receptors, binding
What is the linguistic difference among them?

I would venture a guess that the first is really the second misspelled.

Google them both with ligands and you find 18 of the first and 350000 of the second.

Reading some of the entries of the first, I still vote for a misspelling.

Google them both with ligands and you find 18 of the first and 350000 of the second.

Reading some of the entries of the first, I still vote for a misspelling.
