I heard the word ashay (spelling) and was told it means I agree. Just trying to get the correct spelling

Ashay or anything that sounds similar to it is not Afrikaans, but could possibly be one of the other languages spoken in South Africa. Unfortunately I am not familiar with the term.

agree  Mariènne Botha: It is indeed not Afrikaans, but as far as I know, Northern Sotho. It is not only used in agreement but also in acknowledgment - especially when exchanging greetings. Not sure about the spelling.

agree  Erma: Ek stem saam is correct. Ashay sounds like (D)aarsy, which is spelt Daar is hy, which is also used if in agreement.
