English to Albanian translations [Non-PRO] Tech/Engineering - Cinema, Film, TV, Drama / Websites
English term or phrase:Movies
This will be a title on a web page. I need the plural form. All explanations in English, please!
Explanation: Filma is the right word just for the movies. If you want to use it as a tittle not only for movies itself but the industry of movies in general I would use Kinematografi.

And I know that you are looking for plural form of the word.
Filma is plural form.
See below indefinite, definite plural forms of the words:
filma ( movies) - filmat (the movies)
piktura ( pictures) - pikturat (the pictures)
lidhje (links) - lidhjet (the links)
artikuj (articles) - artikujt (the articles)
libra (books) - librat ( the books)
receta (recipes) - recetat (the recipes)
restorante (restaurants) restorantet ( the restaurants) etc.
We use indefinite form of the nouns to indicate that the noun is not a particular one (ones). It may be something that the speaker is mentioning for the first time, or its precise identity may be irrelevant or hypothetical, or the speaker may be making a general statement about any such thing.
We use definite noun when the speaker and the listeners/readers know what everybody is talking about. It may be something that the speaker has already mentioned, or it may be something uniquely specified.
Also for title you use the nominative form of the noun which is generally, the noun "that is doing something". In your case, when you say movies you mean movies in general, you don't talk about particular movies. The same principle applies to the other words. That is why I would use nouns in nom. case, indef. form
Well, I got you, but then I'm wondering, whether my other words, I had asked about previously, may be wrong, too, since we want to avoid the definite form. So instead of pikturat, recetat and lidhjet, they should rather be piktura, receta and lidhje, since they're titles, hence general/indefinite? I'm also uneasy about artikuj (also previously asked about), because that really looks like singular to me...
It is so true that filmat is another plural form of the word movie like the other plural forms as: filmave. Nouns in Albania as in English have cases. In English they do not change forms at all. In English you know the case of the noun from its position in the sentence. In Albanian language, they change form, the position of the noun in the sentence does not matter. The other thing is that nouns in English language, they make their definite/indefinite form with articles, in Albanian language with suffixes. So,in other words both forms are plural forms of movies. I would say, filma will be the right one because filmat (definite form) would be used when we all know that we are talking about specific movies. In your case, we are talking about movies in general (indefinite form).

Asker: Okay, filma is plural, but then why does also filmat exist, as below? I think, that when both filma and filmat are plural, then filmat would be the more correct one of the two because of most other plural nouns' endings.
Explanation: Movies eshte shumesi i Movie, dmth: Filmat dhe nuk eshte ndonje fjal e komplikuar.
Example sentence(s):
Let us watch movies tonight darling.

Asker: Hi, Veton! You repeatedly ignore my request for English explanations only. And when I ask you to repost it in English, you ignore that, too. Just look above: have I not asked for English? I just want to let you know, that when I choose your answer, that's the reason I give you one point less, not because I'm picking on you.
