English term or phrase: Roof
Hello,

I was wondering what word Albanian speakers in Italy use for "roof?" I know the word that is used in Albania. I need to know what word is used in Italy instead. I suspect that it is a little different. Maybe completely different.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,

Brian Costello

Albanian translation:mbulojë
Explanation:
Do you mean Albanian immigrants in Italy or the Arbëresh people?
My dictionary says for roof: çati, pullaz, kulm
In Northern Albania they use the word "mbulojë" for roof. I found "mbulojë" as synonyme for "çati" in the monolingual Albanian dictionary.

Dear Susanne,

I havent' been able to confirm on the internet whether any of these words: mbulojë, pullaz or kulm are used by Italo-Albanians for "roof" instead of "çati". I tend to doubt it and will have to search the Albanian section in a good library when I get the chance. Nevertheless, thank you still for your reply and for your research.

Sincerely,

Brian Costello

Dear Ahmet,

Thank you for your message too.

Sincerely,
Brian

Notes to answerer
Asker: Dear Susanne, Thanks for your response. Actually, I was referring to the Arbëresh of Sicily and Calabria (Southern Italy). I mentioned that in my first request but all I did was confuse someone so I left it out in my second request. The the Arbëresh apparently use some older Albanian wors that are different from Albania like 'mariol' for "thief" instead of hajdut which is Turkish. "çati" is also from Turkish.

neutral  Ahmet Murati: Well I have a contact with a lady that is descendant of Arbëresh. And she said to me that they mixed language with italian words. For example one oldes albanian word is "gjalle" in modern albanian language this isn't used as verb it is replaces with jetoj
